How It Works
The Excel® V laser has two wavelengths, one selectively targeting pigment (melanin), and the other hemoglobin (protein molecule in red blood cells).
For benign pigmented lesions, the laser light is absorbed by melanin. The pigmented cells become denatured and rise to the surface and flake off.
For vascular lesions, the laser light is absorbed by hemoglobin in the vessel. The heat causes photocoagulation and destroys the vessel wall.
Recommended Sessions
Most conditions require 2 – 3 sessions however, this number may vary based on extent of condition.
What To Expect
The treatment feels like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. The Excel® V utilizes a cooling treatment tip that provides comfort to the skin before and after pulse delivery. Most patients find significant improvement within 2 – 6 weeks although final results may not be apparent for several months. While most treatments are quick and easy, some conditions involve large areas and may require multiple staged treatment sessions. A personalized care plan will be created based on your needs.
Possible Downtime
Redness and/or swelling can be expected following treatment and will resolve within a few days. Any treated brown spots will darken and slough within 3 – 6 days. Full face treatments may have swelling 24 – 48 hours post treatment and usually resolves within a few days. Makeup is safe to wear and you can resume normal daily activity immediately.
Post Treatment Care
Avoid direct or unprotected sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
We recommend 2 layer UV protection with Vitamin C serum and sunblock with SPF 30 or higher (containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide).
Special Considerations
Following spider vein treatment on the legs, we recommend wearing compression stockings for 48 hours. Refrain from high intensity leg exercise and hot tubs for 1 week.
